Well I suppose the first thing I should do is apologize. I have not been feeling well lately, and because of that I have not been as active as I would like to be here on Silent Howls for the past few days. I'll try to reply to all posts I owe whenever I see that I do need to reply. ^^ Now that that has been said, I suppose I should say why I'm on the Writing board. It's because I want to try writing a novel series! (A person can dream! xD) It won't be good, but it'll be fun.
I've actually been meaning to do so for a while now, but just now actually started it. Tell me what you think! :)
Prologue
This part of the small city was quiet, almost as if no one visited this part. There were some small run down shops sure, but it wasn’t that bad. The road was full of trash and quite frankly, the smell of the city was awful. The darkness of the night did not help the man with what he was looking for. He did not care though and he continued onward. There was no one else in sight, which gave the place an eerie feeling to it. Finally, the man made it to the bar.
When the door opened a little bell chimed. A few occupants looked up to see who entered; others did not look as if they even noticed. The man went to sit at the counter, nodding to the bartender. The bartender looked as if her could care less, but asked anyway.
“What can I get you?”
“Just a beer.” The man stated.
“Couldn’t you have gotten that at a gas station?” The bartender asked, but went to get the beer anyway.
“Nothing beats having a beer at a local bar.” He stated, then took a sip of the beer that was offered to him. The bar was quiet for the most part. A few men were at a small table close to the door, chatting away. There was one other man at the other side of the counter.
“So what brings you here anyway? You don’t look like you live here.” The man’s head snapped back at the bartender’s question.
A smirk appeared on his face as he answered. “To hunt wolves of course.”
The bartender stopped cleaning the glass he was rinsing and turned to look at the man. “And why would you want to hunt wolves?”
“They are creatures from that must be destroyed of course.” The man took another sip of his beer, then continued. “Have you heard the accidents happening on the expressway over in Red County?”
“Of course I have. After all, the expressway in question is only about 65 miles from here.”
“Then you must of heard the causes?” The man prodded.
The bartender thought carefully, putting the glass down on the counter. “I heard there were bite marks and some claw marks.”
“It was the wolves of course, and I am here to kill them”
The bartender looked thoughtful for a moment, then nodded. “Alright. If you are serious about hunting them, I might know someone that can help.”
The man looked startled, then laughed. “I don’t need no one to help! I’m fine on my own.”
“Surely it would be a big help to have someone else there with you.” The bartender pointed out. “Besides, I’m sure his dogs could be of some help. He has some well trained hounds.”
The man thought for a moment. Sure, dogs could help, but they could also get in the way. So could another person. Finally, he decided he didn’t want to be the only one to have fun killing the wolves. He nodded and listened as the bartender told him the other hunter’s name, address, and phone number. He gulped down the rest of his beer and left to look for his accomplice.
Chapter 1
It was a brisk spring morning. The sun shone brightly as it filtered through the tree leaves. There was a slight breeze and it played with an ashen colored female wolf’s coat. The forest was calm, a few birds were playing their song for the morning. The grass beneath the wolf’s paws tingled as she continued onwards. A few flowers were dancing to the rhythm of the wind and Zero enjoyed watching them do so. She let out a lazy yawn as she stumbled over a cotton patch. She sneezed, managing to trip over a small branch and go headfirst into a strong oak. Dazed, she shook her head to clear her mind.
“Nice one, Zero!”
Zero looked up at the small raven crouched on one of the oak’s branches. She sighed and got up, making sure the raven knew she would not reply. She had learnt a long time ago that anything she said to Voodoo just made more trouble. Voodoo just launched himself into the air and followed Zero as she made her way through the peaceful forest.
It was now a habit for both of them to travel together, other wolves might find it odd though. After all, most ravens didn’t speak wolf. Even Zero herself was surprised when she had learnt that he could speak the tongue of the wolf. It wasn’t everyday a raven yelled, ‘Please don’t kill me!’ when you were trying to hunt.
Ever since then, she and Voodoo had traveled together. It was certainly strange, but the two had grown on each other. Zero had learned that Voodoo had a sharp tongue and Voodoo had learned it was fun to mess with and make fun of Zero whenever he could.
“So where are we headed now?” Voodoo asked, knowing full well Zero hated this question.
It was something she regularly asked herself many times a day. What was she to do next? So far she had been fine being a loner and traveling. Lately though, it was starting to get tiring. Of course it could be fun to explore new places, but it could also get old. Voodoo had already stated many times before to try joining a pack. Like it was so easy!
She hated it when she had to pass through a pack’s territory enough as it was. She did not want to stay at their border and be spotted by some others. She had learned the hard way of the consequences that followed in doing so. The X shaped scar was now covered by her fur, unless she rolled on her back.
Plus, she had been a loner for so long now. Would she be able to get along with other wolves? Her only social interactions were between her and Voodoo. She tended to avoid other wolves, even other loners.
That's it for now. I've got a headache so I'm lucky to have gotten that far! (I'll look it over tommorow and decide if I should change anything) I guess I should also point out, this is not the same Zero! Well, I guess the apperance and whatnot is the same, but this is not her bio. It is a competly different story. :D
