Salmon nervously shifted. Iggy had fallen asleep, even through the noise. She wished she were a deep sleeper, but any small noise woke her up. She squeezed her eyes tightly as flashes filled the sky. Even though it was the middle of the day and the sun was supposed to be out the sky was as dark as if it were night. The darkness was calming, not blinding and scorching like the sun. But her body knew she was supposed to be sleeping, and it constantly reminded her with yawns. She tried to fall asleep, she really did, but the bangs and the booms always jolted her up. Her tired body found no rest.

Salmon sighed and stared at the sky. Blinding flashes made her blink. Her tiredness was killing her, she wanted to close her eyes and sleep. But when she tried to let sleep take hold a stupid boom would send her eyes snapping open and her eye wide with fear. She wanted to inch closer to Iggy, like she would with her mother. But she couldn't, it would be too awkward and weird. Oh how she missed her mom. She had died in battle when Salmon was a tiny pup, only vague memories of her still lingered. Her dad was unknown, maybe from another clan maybe a rouge. It didn't matter to Salmon though, she had never really given it much thought. She always tried to push the memories away when they came, but that wasn't often. In a way Salmon blamed her eagerness and competitiveness on the death of her mother, she felt like she had something to prove. She just wasn't a weak and orphaned pup with a dead mother and unknown father. She was a wolf destined for greatness, that was for certain. She would show everyone how great she was! One day, one day.

(I know. Sorry. Ran out of ideas.)
Iggy lay fast asleep. The rain pitter pattered in his sleep but this time there wasn't a dream. Just the blackness of sleep. Even with the thunder Iggy was still asleep. It was like he couldn't hear it at all.

Salmon lay awake till midnight, for the storm continued till then. Finally as the last boom echoed through the cave Salmon closed her eyes and drifted to sleep. A deep dreamless sleep, one that lasted for hours. Dawn she lay softly snoring, oblivious to anything going on around her.

The dawn light fluttered into the den. This is when Iggy woke up. He blinked open his eyes and yawned. He stood up and then stretched to help him wake up. He looked over at Salmon and saw that she was still asleep. Iggy's stumach then rumbled. He decied to go get something to eat. He walked out of the den and over to the food pile. When he got there he grabbed a fish from the pile. He took a couple of bites and looked up to see if Salmon had woken up. Not seeing her he finished his fish then looked around to see who was up and about.

Salmon's eyes fluttered open to the light of the morning. Uggg, she thought. I slept all night. Most of the others went to bed a little while ago. Sighing she looked around to see if she could find Iggy. He had left his moss lined bed, probably to head outside. Stepping out of the cave she noticed him sitting next to the food pile. Eagerly she rushed over and grabbed a trout. Food! Her stomach growled in response. Quickly she practically swallowed the whole thing, but more took large bites. Swallowing the last bits she smiled up at Iggy. "Whadya wanna do?"

"Hey." Iggy called as he saw Salmon. He watched as she came over to him and then heard her stomach growled. He had to stiffle a giggle. He waited for Salmon and heard her sak what he wanted to do. "Uuhhh..... Lets go swimming!" He barked. Swimming sounded good. He looked at Salmon to see what she thought of the idea.

Salmon leaped to her feet and yipped in joy. "Yeah! Sounds like fun!" She walked up to Iggy and tapped him with her tail. "Tag! Your it!" She dashed off in the direction of the river, glancing back to see if Iggy would chase her.

Iggy laughed and pushed off with his hind legs. He charged after Salmon, not willing to let her beat him. He ran faster and faster trying to catch up but he always seemed to be a pawstep behind. He looked up and saw a log ahead. He maybe he could use this for an advantage. He lept over the log easily and hoped that the log had slowed Salmon enough so that he could catch her.
