Chapter 4
Kamin walked out of his hiding spot. The cool air ruffled his black pelt. He pushed back his worries to the back of his mind. Everything would be okay, his parents were just waiting for him. That was all. No worries. He took a step forward, to where he dind't know. Where had his parents gone? They had just left his and walked away. So Kamin just let his paws carry him wherever. The moon was almost gone, the sun was replacing it. The air started to warm up, baking Kamin's thick fur. But he kept walking, he was determined to find his parents. They would be okay. They would also be proud of him for walking far to find them. Then they would all go back to the den and sleep everything off. It would be like normal, like a regular day. But a voice inside his head told him that anything normal would not be happening. The farther Kamin walked the thinner the tree's got. The sun was now high in the sky. Kamin had taken many breaks, his tiny feet were no match for the evil rocks and twigs the shot out of the forest floor. Soon a stench filled Kamin nose, a foul rotting sort of stench. It was the smell of blood, the battle spot was getting closer. All the signs said so. In parts of the forest behind him the birds had sang and the other animals had been out and about. But here it was deserted, nothing stirred and the only sound to be heard was the tip-tap of Kamin's paws. Soon the trees too showed signs of a fight, blood was splattered on them. Tiny blood spatters also covered the ground. He continued to walk, suddenly he stopped. He was here, or at least somewhere important. In this spot there were scarcely any trees. It was basically a dirt clearing. Exhausted from his little journey Kamin sat down and took deep breathes. He longed to find a stream, to drink cool clear water. But there was nothing around. After a long rest Kamin stood back up. The day was cooling down, the hottest part was over. He was now ready to do some real exploring. He looked around and saw, well really nothing. Never mind! Something did catch his eye. He ran over too it, a large figure was laying down. It look familiar..... “Mother!” Kamin ran even faster toward it, joy and happiness filled his eyes. “Mother! I'm here! I found you! Aren't you....proud?” Something was wrong. She wasn't moving, and soon he realized she had extra red splotches. And these weren't marking. He finally reached her, sitting beside his mother grief clouded his eyes. “Mommy....?” He prodded his unmoving mother. Nothing happened. He started to sob. When Kamin awoke the moon was high in the sky. How long had he slept? He sat up and shook himself. Part of his pelt was caked in dry blood, and none of it was his. He sighed. This wasn't supposed to happen! Kamin cried again, and who could blame him. His mother was gone, she had left him! She lied! She was gone... This time he studied her body a bit closer. She had many scratches and rip scars. Her white pelt was now coated in red, her real read splotches covered by new ones. But one thing intrigued him. Why hadn't he noticed this before? Sticking out of his mothers neck was a fang. A wolf fang. Now why would that be there? He gently pulled it out, studying it closer. It was like any other wolf tooth. The only difference was how white and shiny it was. Like it had been washed over and over in a stream. Why would this be in his mothers neck? Did someone bite her there and get their tooth stuck? He shook his head, clearing the gruesome thoughts. Kamin's stomach uttered a long and annoyed growl. As much as he hated to admit it he was starving. He needed to eat. But he just couldn't bring himself to leave his mother body. Then a thought struck him. If he could find his father then maybe he could feed him and help him move mothers body! He got excited and jumped up. Slowly and regretfully he headed out of the clearing, casting glances over his shoulder at his mother body. He hoped she would be okay. Even if she was dead. As he walked back to where he thought his families den was he made one promise. One small and determined promise. He would find whoever did this, he would find them and end them. Just like what they did to his mother.

Chapter 5
Kamin slowly walked to through the forest. His practically dragged his aching feet across the ground. He was starving and tired, and together they made him a truly miserable wolf. Groaning all the way he walked toward the faint scent of his parents, to where he hoped his den lay. When Kamin was so weak he could pass out from exhaustion, he saw a den out in the distance. Panting with relief he practically crawled to the shelter. When Kamin finally reached his den he hit the floor and fell asleep immediately. Blinking open his groggy eyes Kamin got adjusted to his surroundings. The den looked just as it did before, but it lacked one thing. The smiling face of his mother. A single silver tear slid down Kamin's face. The night before was one he would not easily forget, and his promise was one he would keep. Kamin got up and walked to the mouth of the den, a cool breeze met him. It ruffled his pelt and made him feel alive again. The moon shone on his pelt, making it look more gray than black. He turned around and looked at his surroundings. Suddenly a figure caught his attention. “Father!” He ran toward his long-lost parent. He soon reached his dad. Toka was in a terrible state. His fur was matted and blood-stained. His eyes looked dull and lifeless. His claws were ripped and his ear was torn. He looked at Kamin, like he was studying him and making a decision. “Dad! I missed you so much! What happened? I saw mommy, and well..,” he burst into little tears on his dads shoulder. Toka just stood up and brushed him away. The startled Kamin followed him. “Hey dad! Where are you going?” Kamin asked confused. His dad acted like he didn't even care about him. Maybe he was just tired and shocked like Kamin was. But he could be a bit more sensitive. “Away,” his father gruffly answered. Walking toward the woods. “But why? What about me? Wait daddy!” Kamin ran toward his father again, trying to compete with his dads long and powerful legs. “I'm going just because. You'll just have to stay here on your own,” his father replied. There was no emotion in his voice. It was cold and hard, like the single fang Kamin had found. “But daddy!” Kamin whined desperately. “You can't go without me! I don't know how to fend for myself! You have to teach me!” He was getting worried now. This wasn't like his father. His father was cheerful and happy, always ready to help him. “You can learn on you own,” Toka said without even turning around to look at his son. “But dad!” Kamin whimpered, getting scared. “I'm your son! Doesn't that mean anything?” Was his dad just going to leave him on his own? Undefeneded and helpless. Where was the dad he knew? “NO!” Toka shouted angrily, spinning around to confront Kamin. “It does not mean ANYTHING! I don't care about you! I didn't want pups! I didn't want this! Your mother talked me into it! And I was only happy because she was happy! But she is gone now! I don't care! Go do whatever! I'm not your dad!” He spun back around, leaving poor Kamin sitting in the dirt, confused as ever. He had thought his had cared, he thought he had loved him. But it was all a lie, a stupid prank. It wasn't true. He was on his own now, he had no protection or care. But maybe that was the way to live. If you had no one to love there was no one to hurt you. So Kamin ran. He ran in the opposite direction his father had gone. When he got to a thick part of the forest he sat down. His head swarm and his mind hurt. For the third time that day Kamin cried. He cried for his mother, and the loss he had experienced. But he also cried because of his dad, and the awful truth he had spilled. Why did life hold such sadness? Why did his life have to be like this? Those questions flooded Kamin's mind. He was now an orphan. He was new wolf. A new wolf with a new past and a new goal. To get revenge, to prove to his father that he was a pup to be proud of, and to find what he was here for. Why he existed. Kamin was changing his life. For a new life he needed a new name. A name to describe himself and the hurt he had gone through. Zal, his name would be Zal. Now Zal was ready to step out into the world and do what he was meant to do. (Zal means grief in Polish.)

I finally wrote more! And lots more is to come!
Chapter 6
Zal crept through the forest. He was weak. His belly ached from hunger, his legs were wobbly from exhaustion. He felt like laying down and sleeping for days, but he probably wouldn't survive the night. He needed food, and fast. It had been two weeks since Toka had left him. Food had been hard, basically a mouse or small bird here and there. Just enough to keep him alive. Zal was small, of course he was only 6 months. But his size gave him a disadvantage when it came to hunting, no deer or moose. He had never been taught how to hunt either, so what he was doing was based off of peer instinct. So far instinct wasn't helping him much. His mother was going to teach him how to hunt before she... He burst into tears again. Would he ever get over the pain? Creeping through the woods Zal kept his nose up and his back low. He tried to find something worth eating. A mouse scurried across the leafy floor, its tiny feet scratching the pines. He was tempted to catch it, or at least attempt to. But tonight he was determined, he wanted to find something big. Something that would fill his belly for a while. Food that would make it so that he didn't starve every night. He wanted a deer. The moon reflected off Zal's black pelt, the stars shone in the night sky. Owls hooted and crickets chirped. Zal lightly stepped on the ground, wincing at every crack or creak he made. He breathed in the scents, searching for deer. But so far all he got was mouse, mouse and rabbit. He knew that those wouldn't fill his growing body. If he was to survive the nights he needed more. One could easily tell that Zal wasn't getting enough. His matted and un-groomed fur stuck to his ribs. Revealing the empty stomach. The hours past and the night started to turn to morning. He knew that food was not on the menu tonight. Just a cool drink and some rest. Gloomily Zal walked back to his shelter underneath the boulders. He dragged his feet in disappointment. Failure had met him again, and hunger greeted his empty stomach. Even though he tried it still wasn't enough. He would never learn to hunt, or really even get a chance to try. As he walked to his den a scent caught his nose. Zal almost instantly thought it was mouse and kept walking. But as the smell got stronger he knew it couldn't be mouse, it had to be something else. Raising his nose to the air Zal tried to figure out the scent. Then it came to him. Deer! The scent was deer! Slowly and carefully Zal walked toward the scent. His belly tingled with excitement, but he made sure his excitement stayed in his belly. Any loud movement or sound would scare away his to-be meal, or at least he hoped his meal. He kept his back low and his paw steps light. His mouth watered as the scent got stronger and stronger. Soon he could see the herd. There were many deer, of all sizes. Zal was afraid though, what if he blew his chance at catching a meal? The empty discomfort in his belly told him that he couldn't blow this. It was his only chance. Zal picked a baby out of the crowd. It would be the easiest to catch. Or that's what he assumed. He stalked the herd in the brush, careful not to make noise. When he was sure their back were turned he leaped and charged toward his victim. Though the bulls and does out ran him, the baby was about his speed. Determination and hunger sent his paws flying to his meal. When Zal thought he was close enough he nipped at its pelt, causing it to whine in pain. As it slowed down he was able to jump on it and bite its neck, killing it. As the warm blood of deer entered his mouth he grinned in satisfaction, tonight he would not fall asleep hungry. Dragging the baby to his den Zal thought about his luck. If he kept this up living on his own wouldn't be as hard as he thought. With the large boulders of his home in sight Zal got eager. He started to run, the body of the deer bouncing on the ground. His stomach loudly growled. Soon, he told it, soon we'll eat. Now in his den Zal torn into the deer. Warm meet calmed his stomach and mind. That night he fell asleep, his belly bursting and his dreams peaceful for once. If every night was like this maybe life wouldn't be as bad. Maybe.
Chapter 7
Zal was now a year old. He had made it through winter and spring now greeted him. The sun warmed his pelt and made him feel happy. Or as happy as he could ever be again. Today he decided would be a good day for hunting. Trotting into the forest Zal searched for the scent or deer. Soon he found some, quickly he went into hunting mode. He crouched down and quietly searched for the herd. Finally he found them. Staring at his choices he slowly moved forward, not exactly looking where he was going. Suddenly his head collided with something hard. “Ow!” Zal and another voice exclaimed. Even though his head hurt like crap Zal snapped it up. What he saw shocked him. It was like looking into a mirror, an inverted mirror. “Woah,” both of them echoed. He stared at the other wolf's gray eyes, just like his. What he was looking at was a red wolf. The exact color of his own markings. But the really weird thing was the other wolf's markings. They were just like Zal's! But instead of red they were black. “Who are you?” Zal exclaimed. “And why do you look just like me?” “I dunno!” The stranger replied. “This is crazy! I've never met anyone just like me before. What's your name?” For a split second he was tempted to say Kaimen, but that temptation ended quickly. “Zal,” he said. “My name is Zal. You?” “Oakoa.” He wagged his tail. “You know this is weird! We're like lost brothers!” That made Zal wince, thinking about his siblings. He knew that Oakoa wasn't his brother. But a thought struck him. “Who is your mother?” Zal questioned, grief struck him again. “My mother was Sari. But she is, uh, gone now.” Oakoa looked down at the ground. Zal knew how he felt. “I lost my mother too. And my father...” He got an angry glint in his eye. His father was a stupid traitor. He was never there when Zal needed him. “My father betrayed me,” Oakoa viciously burst out. “When my mother died Toka left me. It was all his fault that my mother died anyway. The Fang's wanted him to join them, but he didn't . So they killed her, and he was able to escape.” A tear formed in his eye. Zal looked at him shocked. “Your dad was Toka!” he exclaimed. His brain whirling. This was so weird. Oakoa nodded. “My dad was Toka!” Zal said. Oakoa looked at him, his eyes wide with amazement. “So Toka had two mates? At once? Woah. Now I really hate him. Is that why he was always hunting? Anyway, we really are brothers! Well half brother I guess! This is kind of cool.” Zal nodded his agreement. Even though he had just met Oakoa he felt like he knew him well already. Inside it was reassuring to know he still had family, or something he could call family. “Hey where do you live?” Oakoa questioned. “Follow me. I'll show you.” he stood up and ran toward his den. Turning around to see if Oakoa was following. But he didn't see him. Suddenly he felt a slam against his side and then he was thrown down. Looking up he saw Oakoa, an amused grin on his face. “Be more careful next time! You want to watch where your going, and who is coming.” For once in a long time Zal laughed. Oakoa copied him and let him up. They both grinned. “How 'bout I show you the den now?” Zal offered. Oakoa looked younger than Zal, he realized that his tragedies had probably happened only a few weeks ago. Though he looked well fed he had probably learned to hunt before he was sent out on his own. Quickly he ran again. Taunting Oakoa to catch him. Together they ran to the den.
